The lonely little girl.

There are three cases associated with the Martinique Apartments on Baum Boulevard in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Today we will look at the only case that would involve a child.

Mary Ann Verdecchia (10) was living with her aunt, Ruth Riley, and many cousins when she went missing from Bloomfield Pennsylvania on June 7th, 1962.

Her parents, Joseph and Marilyn abandoned her after they divorced, and for the last years five years she was being raised by her aunt. Mary Ann was often out on the streets going from one place to another. A lot of the time going back to visit an old neighbor in the Martinique Apartments by the name of Jean.

On the day she went missing it was the last day of school at Immaculate Conception, which to Mary Ann’s delight was a short day. She walked home and changed out of her uniform, put her long brown hair in a ponytail and told her aunt she was going to visit Jean.

She often helped Jean run errands and that day was no different. Jean was out of cat food and asked Mary Ann to go to the store and get her some. Mary Ann took Jean’s money and headed off to the…
