Missing from Wichita Falls, Texas

On December 9, 1961, Scott Andreas Douglass Sims, better known as Alex (11) lived in Wichita Falls, Texas with his older brother, mother, and stepfather on a corner lot in the 4600 block of Stanford Avenue. They hadn’t lived in the area for long when the unthinkable happened.

William Sims, the stepfather was in the National Guard and had been called up during the Berlin crisis with the 49th Armored Division to go to Fort Polk, Louisiana so he wasn’t there at that time.

Ellen Sims, his mother, was a nurse and was at work that day. She called home at 12:30 p.m. and spoke to Alex’s older brother, Donald. Alex was still in the house and accounted for at that time.

Sometime between 12:45 and 1 p.m., Alex left the house to go outside and play. When his mother came home at 2:30 p.m. Alex was gone. Ellen and other family members and friends searched for Alex without success for 8 hours. That is when they called the police to report him missing.

Fort Sill, Civil Defense, and Marine Reserves, along with members of the Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol searched tirelessly for Alex. They would never find him or any clue that would give them some idea of what happened.
