She Disappeared After Arguing with Her Sister-in-law

The 17-year-old would never be seen again.

Karen Spencer lived with one of her brothers and a sister-in-law in Reading Ohio. She was getting ready to turn 18 and move to Florida with them to start a new life. She was happy and excited.

The sister-in-law by the name of Christy tells us that on the night of December 29th or the wee hours of the 30th of 1989, they were driving on I-275 arguing and Christy pulled over and Karen got out of the truck. We do not honestly know if Karen wanted out or Christy put her out. Either way she left her there. Christy then tells us that she circled back to pick her back up and Karen was gone.

“Whether she was asked to get out of the car, whether she wanted out of the car, that’s debatable, but basically, she got out of the vehicle on 275 heading toward 71 between Wards Corner and Loveland Madeira, and [that’s the] last we’ve seen or heard of her,” Jim Campbell, one of Karen’s brothers, said.

Karen’s parents, Richard, and Diane along with her six siblings have never stopped looking for her. Everything changed for the family in an instant.

“Make no mistake — there’s a person out there walking around who killed our sister 31 years ago,” Campbell said. “They say time heals all wounds, and I guess to a certain extent it does…
