Karen Sparks — January 4th, 1974
She was an 18-year-old University of Washington student who was studying political science. Her bedroom was in a basement apartment with a window where her would be killer would watch her. She thought she saw him looking in, but it was a split second and when she glanced back there was no one there. He would wait until she was in a deep sleep before entering her room. When he did enter, he took a metal rob and beat her badly with it. He would then shove a metal speculum into her vagina splitting her bladder. A lot of accounts would confuse the speculum for a rod because police officers didn’t understand what they were looking at and called it a rod. How did he get a speculum? He worked for a medical supply company. He would leave her laying there unconscious until her roommates would find her almost 20 hours later. It’s believed he heard her male roommate talking in his sleep which is why he didn’t finish the job. Today Karen says she hasn’t had a bad day since it happened.
